Groppo – Costa Corniolo
Trail 532C is a connecting route between the rural village of Groppo and the Costa Corniolo ridge. This itinerary allows easy movement between the area of the Cantina Sociale winery and the main trail network overlooking Manarola and Riomaggiore.
The route crosses a typically Ligurian landscape, with terraced vineyards, dry-stone walls and dense areas of Mediterranean scrub, offering panoramic glimpses of the coast below.
The itinerary begins near the Cooperativa Agricoltura 5 Terre, known as the Cantina Sociale, located along Provincial Road SP51. The starting point is marked by a short concrete stairway next to a private garage on the right-hand side of a bend in the provincial road. After climbing the stairway, the trail develops gently.
The first section crosses pine woodland and cultivated fields until it intersects trail 502, Tornante Groppo – Sella Monte Galera. After a very short shared stretch with this trail, 532C continues along the edge of a terraced vineyard.
The final section continues through Mediterranean vegetation until it rejoins the main trail 532 directly on the Costa Corniolo ridge. From this strategic junction, it is possible to descend towards Manarola or Riomaggiore via Via Beccara, trail 531, or continue towards the Strada dei Santuari, trail 530.
Useful info
- Gates: along the route there are three gates installed to contain wild boars. They must be carefully closed after passing through, to protect the vineyards
- Preparation: despite the moderate elevation, suitable hiking footwear is required
- Connections: this is the quickest access route for those coming from Volastra or Groppo who wish to reach the panoramic ridge without passing through the coastal villages
