Manarola – AV5T Junction, Sella di Monte Marvede
Trail 506, formerly trail no. 6, is one of the main connecting routes between the coast and the Cinque Terre ridge: a vertical itinerary that climbs from Manarola to Sella di Monte Marvede, where it meets the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre, or AV5T.
The route follows the valley of Groppo, initially passing through houses and cultivated terraces, then crossing olive groves, vineyards and, in the upper section, woodland. It is a varied itinerary from a landscape point of view, gradually moving from a maritime setting to a more rural and hillside environment.
Starting from the centre of Manarola, the trail climbs towards Piè di Fiesse, an important hiking junction. From here it continues among olive groves to reach Volastra, a panoramic hamlet where the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Salute is located and where it is possible to stop. After Volastra, the route continues uphill towards the inland area, first crossing cultivated land and then more wooded areas, until it reaches Sella di Monte Marvede on the ridge, where the trail connects with the AV5T.
The trail is long and has a significant elevation gain, but it does not present particular technical difficulties. The climb is steady and follows mixed terrain, including stairways, mule tracks and dirt sections.
Trail 506 is one of the most commonly used connections for reaching the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre from the coast and is ideal for building longer itineraries along the ridge.
